Surgery #4

Hi friends,

So last time I mentioned that I needed to have my tonsils and adenoids taken out... well, it's done!

On Friday, Mom, Dad and I headed to Childrens' Hospital at 5:30 am.  Mom and Dad talked to me about it during the week leading up to that, but I wasn't listening very well because this all kinda took me by surprise.

For the first time Mom and Dad came back to the OR to help with the anethesia process... now they know why I was afraid of their blue suits and funny hats.  I am not a fan of the gas mask or the bright white rooms with blinding lights.

The surgery only took about 20 minutes - I guess it's pretty routine.  The Dr. had decided when we scheduled the surgery that I would spend the night at the hospital, so they didn't have to wake me up from the anesthesia.  Waking up from anesthesia can be pretty hard, so I was glad that I was able to sleep it off instead.

Even though I don't appreciate the process, I'm hopeful that this was all for good cause... not sure if it's because of the surgery, but I was able to stay off O2 the whole time at the hospital and none was prescribed for at home.  My snoring is rampant, but they say that will be that way for awhile until the swelling goes down in my throat.

I feel pretty good now, as long as Mom and Dad keep up with the tylenol - waking up this morning was not fun.  I didn't get any medicine while I slept last night, so when I woke this morning I was in a lot of pain.  The tylenol seems to do the trick though.  I got a prescription for stronger stuff, but haven't needed it since right after surgery on Friday.

Thank you all for your prayers around this surgery... I'm told that I did very well and that things seem to be going well.  Thanks for continuing to pray for me as the recovery process is said to be about two weeks.

Before surgery, we met lots of people coming in and out of this room getting all my information before surgery.

I started getting very concerned once this garb was brought out for Mom and Dad - I think I have some supressed memories from previous surgeries about the blue suits and hats.

Mommy helped me feel calm and relaxed after I got out of surgery... I watched "Nemo" and "Tangled" in the post-op area before they finally had a room ready for me in the hospital.

I found out I couldn't eat some of my favorite foods while I ate an orange popsicle.... I was a bit taken back.

Heather and Paul brought me this awesome cake today!  I feel better already!

This week is Spring Break and Grandma and Grandpa bird will be coming for a visit from Iowa, so I'm sure we'll have some stories to tell.

Early 2012 Happenings

Hi Friends!

2012 is well under way and I'm still trying to catch up (actually it's my parents trying to keep up).
The month of February was plagued with sickness that cycled through each of us two or three times. 

In January I had a sleep study done which led to the discovery of sleep apnea and compelled the Dr's to send me home with oxygen once again... We're not incredibly faithful on this as it's very hard to keep me from strangling myself with the cords, thus rendering the O2 useless!!  However, we are taking steps to hopefully remedy the situation.  We met with an ENT at Children's Hospital yesterday and will soon schedule a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy to clear my airway while I sleep.  Not too excited about the surgery, but hope that any long term bad effects will be avoided.

March has started kinda crummy with all of us still dealing with the effects of upper respiratory viruses... it seems that we are all on the mend though.

In January we went to Colorado Springs to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa T.  We went to Focus on the Family and got to play in their theater... the audience was puddy in my hands.

This is me at the Valentine's party at my school... The only day of the year I get to wear this outfit in its entirety.

I am quite good at putting on socks... still need to work on the rest of my clothes (ultra flexibility is a bonus when using this method of sock application)

Mom wanted me to point out that the clothes in the laundry basket are clean and had once been folded... I love to make her fold them twice.

It's a secret what I was up to this day... Mom found me playing like this.

My choice for the new carpet... Mom and Dad didn't appreciate my opinion, they went with the one on the right.

My cold really wore me out.  I fell asleep while watching LHOP (Little House on the Prairie)

The aftermath... she said that the first cut was kinda hard to do, but then she started to enjoy it.  By the way, my mom placed me in a garbage bag while cutting my hair... is that considered allowing a child to play with plastic bags - should she be reported?

Well, that's the skinny.  Still managed to do lots of things between sicknesses.

Happy New Year and so much more!

Sorry that I have been so delinquent with posting info and pictures on my blog.  I am going to do my best to catch everyone up on what I have been up to over the last couple months.

I had a nice Thanksgiving with my grandma and grandpa "T".  We had really nice weather and were able to get out for a nice walk after we ate.

Next up was Christmas.  This year was my year to get more hands on with all of the activities that surround Christmas.  I enjoyed helping bake cookies, setup the Christmas decorations and prematurely opening the gifts under the tree that were meant for my cousins.

Before making our anual trip to Iowa we met up with my Dad's side of the family at a restaurant in downtown Denver for a nice dinner and a gift exchange.  The restaurant was very nicely decorated and we had a large table for the food and gifts.

 Christmas at Lake Okoboji was a little different then it has been in years past.  We usually expect to get some sledding in and a walk or two on the lake.  This year the lake was still in its liquid state and there was no snow on the ground so we played football instead.  It was awesome to play with all of my cousins.  Whether it was in the pool playing with all of the toys or jumping on grandma and grandpa's bed, I was glad to be able to play with the cousins pretty much all the time I was awake.  It is always great to spend time with family in Iowa over Christmas.

I hope that you all are having a great start to 2012.  I am looking forward to many fun and exciting things in the upcoming year.  I plan to make great leaps at school and the work that I am doing with my therapists.  We have some fun trips planned like Yellowstone in June and then a big trip to Iowa in August for Trent and Julies' wedding.  Keep checking out my blog and I will do my best to keep you all up to date with what is going on in my life.

Fall?.... Winter?... Depends on the day!

Hello from the frozen north (depending on where you are in comparison to me)... quite a few of you are probably north of me, but I liked the sound of the greeting!  I haven't heard an official snow fall total for today, but according to the height of the snow when I was walking through it, I'd say we got a good thigh high snow fall today (interpretation:  about 10 inches).

Nothing changed because of the weather, school was still on, Dad still went to work, the only difference for me was the crazy amount of clothing I had to wear - it took some coaxing before I realized that I could in fact walk in my boots in the snow.

Today was a big change from Monday when we had an 80 degree record high.  They say we should be back to regular Fall weather by Friday.  Until then, I am enjoying playing in the snow with Boscoe!

I don't think the tomatoes survived the storm... oh well, I don't think they had survived Mom's experimental gardening before this happened!

Boscoe loves the snow... he had quite a time finding his ball each time we threw it.

This one was great, except for the fact that it would soon be dropped - don't worry, it survived and is currently coved in snow on the front doorstep.

There you have it, winter and fall all wrapped into one blog. 

I have been having a ton of fun at school lately and look forward to dressing up in costume for school the next two days.  I'll try to get some pictures of that as well.
